Chocolate--An Aphrodisiac?
Historically, chocolate and love (or just plain old “burning desire”) have been closely joined. Beginning with its documented use as an aphrodisiac by Montezuma, the King of the Aztecs in the 1500s, (he drank over 50 cups of chocolate a day . . . bet that kept his harem happy) to the current custom of giving a “box” to that special someone on Valentine’s Day, chocolate has always been perceived as a romance food.
Turns out, there might be a good scientific reason. When you are in love, the level of phenylethylamine (PEA) in your brain rises dramatically. Chocolate is high in this substance. So, eat a truffle and accentuate that feeling of love. Unlike some recipients of our love, Chocolate will never let you down!
Chocolate—Can it Make You Live Longer?
Scientific studies confirm what all chocoholics have always known: that eating chocolate leads to a long and happy life. Scientists have discovered those who ate sweets lived longer than those who didn’t. Some credit the Phenol in chocolate (this chemical is also found in red wine) which acts as an antioxidant and lowers the risk of heart disease and cancer. So, take two boxes of truffles and call us in the morning...for more!
